Description

Introduction and summary
This manual documents the tasks required to be performed by X-ray technicans within MSF projects, to
maintain the X-ray equipment. It details user maintenance procedures for MSF standard X-ray
equipment.

If your project has a non-standard piece of equipment, please check with the biomedical referent and
the user manual supplied with your equipment that the procedures are the same for your machine,
before undertaking the maintenance as recommended in this manual.
This manual is organised by piece of equipment, and lists the maintenance required for each standard
piece of X-ray equipment and accessory items. You will find first an overview of all the maintenance
tasks required for the machine, and the frequency, followed by specific steps and materials required to
complete the task. Please read the specific task instructions fully before beginning the task.
A full overview of the required tasks for quality control and maintenance for a project with all standard
equipment is provided in Annex 1.
Documenting user maintenance
It is within the job description of all X-ray technicians to perform preventative maintenance and quality
control, so ensuring the good working order of the equipment, and the department. It is required that
the maintenance is documented so that all in the department can identify those tasks which have been
completed and those still required. This documentation must be presented on biomedical / imaging
visits to show a record of tasks completed.
To create a logbook to document maintenance and quality control, it is recommended to use the sheets
provided in the annexes which list the tasks required for good running and maintenance of the
department. These sheets should be copied and stored in a file in the department.
 Annex 2 – checklist for daily tasks
 Annex 3 – checklist for weekly, monthly and 3 monthly tasks
 Annex 4 – checklist for 6 monthly and yearly tasks.
If any specific tasks do not apply to your department, you can delete or alter the task as required. Daily
tasks must be initialled in the space provided each day on completion. For the weekly, monthly and
3/6/12 monthly tasks, initial and document the date when the task was carried out.
