Contact Lens Optics and Lens Design

Description

PREFACE

Clinical optometrists are quite rightly concerned with and interested in the
pathophysiology of the visual system. In the area of contact lenses, this has
generated an expertise in ocular complications of contact lens wear.
Unfortunately, this admirable interest appears to have been accompanied by
less enthusiastic application to the problems encountered in visual optics.
This is a pity because optometrists are in a very strong position to claim the
high ground in the visual optics arena. Much of what can be calculated is of
direct use and relevance to the clinical optometrist. Lens thickness
calculations, for example, will allow optometrists to devise and design lenses
that maximize patient comfort and corneal oxygenation.
